Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was Rockstar Games' third 3D game in the Grand Theft Auto series. It was released on October 26, 2004, for the PlayStation 2. The game was later released for the Xbox and Microsoft Windows on June 7, 2005, and June 13, 2005, respectively.

It is the seventh title in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the first main entry since 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It was released on the same day as Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PlayStation Portable.

Gameplay

The gameplay is similar to other games in the series. Players complete missions—linear scenarios with set objectives—to progress through the story. Outside of missions, players can freely roam the open world.

Composed of the fictional city of Los Santos and the surrounding area, the world is much larger in area than earlier entries in the series. It may be fully explored after the game's initial installation, although certain areas are inaccessible until certain missions are completed.

The gameplay is very open-ended, allowing the player to explore the game world and complete missions at their own pace. The player can drive any vehicle they can find, including cars, motorcycles, tanks, and helicopters.

The game also includes a fitness system, which awards the player for completing running, cycling, and swimming exercises. The game features three playable protagonists, whom the player may switch between at any time: CJ, Franklin Clinton, and Trevor Philips. Each character has a unique style of play, such as driving and shooting.

Graphics

The graphics were greatly improved over the previous game in the series. San Andreas also featured increased draw distance, finer texture details, denser traffic, and new weather effects. The game world is much larger and more detailed, and the character models are more realistic.

Controls

The controls are very similar to the previous game in the series. The player can control the character's movement and actions using the directional pad or joystick, and can use buttons to interact with the game world.

The controls were greatly improved in San Andreas. The game's controls were reworked to feature three protagonists, who control differently. The game offered customizable controls on the PC, and analog control support on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

Replayability

The game has a high replay value, as there are many side missions and collectibles to find. The game can also be played with different characters, each with its own unique abilities.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a highly enjoyable game. The improved graphics and controls, along with the increased replayability, make it a must-have for any gamer.
