Reviving the Cosmic Epic: Ram V and Evan Cagle Bring Jack Kirby's New Gods into DC's All In Future

A cosmic imbalance will culminate in the revival of Jack Kirby's New Gods, thanks to an exciting new series from Ram V and Evan Cagle. Ram V, who is wrapping up a highly acclaimed run on Detective Comics for DC, has now revealed his next big project. This highly anticipated revival is set to launch at the end of the year, featuring his Detective Comics collaborator, Evan Cagle, as the interior artist. Cagle, known for his wonderfully gothic covers for Detective Comics, will bring his talent to the new ongoing series simply titled The New Gods.

During this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Ram V shared a few insights on what to expect from the upcoming comic, mentioning its connection to DC's recently announced DC All In initiative.

An absolute and All In trigger initiates a cosmic imbalance, which sets off a series of events between New Genesis and Apokolips. Classic characters like Lightray, Highfather, Mister Miracle, and Big Barda—who is currently part of the Birds of Prey—will feature prominently in the story. Additionally, the theme of parenthood will play a significant role throughout the series.

The New Gods reside on the planets New Genesis and Apokolips, the latter being notably the home of Darkseid. Writer Scott Snyder recently highlighted Darkseid's role as the "greatest villain in the DCU" for the DC All In era. The New Gods made their debut in the early '70s when Jack Kirby departed from Marvel and joined DC. They first appeared in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #133, eventually leading to three ongoing comics: The Forever People, Mister Miracle, and The New Gods. Known collectively as Jack Kirby's Fourth World, these characters have remained a beloved and influential part of DC comics history ever since.

Ram V and Evan Cagle’s interpretation of The New Gods is scheduled for publication by DC in December, though the exact release date is yet to be confirmed.
