As the literary world eagerly anticipates George R.R. Martin's completion of The Winds of Winter, HBO is ensuring that the thirst for Game of Thrones lore is quenched with various ventures. In addition to House of the Dragon poised for a summer comeback, numerous other Game of Thrones-related initiatives are underway.
In a recent blog update primarily praising Blue Eye Samurai, Martin revealed insights into possible animated expansions of the Game of Thrones universe.
"A few years back, in a burst of creative inspiration, we devised four animated series, collaborating with an outstanding team of creative minds. The subsequent phases involved assembling writing teams, strategic meetings, crafting outlines, and writing scripts. However, two of these initial animated concepts have been shelved, sadly," he shared in the post.
Despite the setback, Martin notes progress for the remaining two animated adaptations: "The development of the other two animated series is progressing swiftly. Additionally, Nine Voyages, which chronicles the epic adventures of the Sea Snake, has transitioned from a live-action series to an animated one, a decision I wholeheartedly endorse."
Martin expresses optimism that none of the concepts, even those currently on hold, will be permanently abandoned, suggesting that in the entertainment industry, ideas have a way of being resurrected.
