Claude AI Now Available on Android: New App Brings Advanced Features and Subscription Options

Anthropic has expanded its reach by introducing an Android app for its Claude artificial intelligence chatbot, only a few months after launching the iOS version. This new app is readily available for download on the Play Store, and it comes at no cost. The interface is designed to mirror the website's functionality, offering all basic features to even the free users. At the heart of the app is the Claude 3.5 Sonnet, a powerful AI model the company unveiled recently.

The announcement concerning the Android app was made on X, notably once called Twitter. Although Anthropic hasn't clarified if the release is worldwide or limited to certain areas, it has been confirmed that the app can be accessed via the Play Store. The download size of the Claude AI app is a compact 4.12MB. Users will have to sign up with an email and register their details using their phone number to utilize the app. Free users gain access to the key features of the text-based AI, with the added benefits coming from the 3.5 Sonnet's computer vision capabilities. To unlock this feature, users must grant the app permission to use the camera and gallery, enabling them to click pictures and query the AI for information regarding those images.

This Claude 3.5 Sonnet, launched just last month, lends incredible capabilities to the chatbot, including a 200,000 token context window. Anthropic suggests that this latest model operates at twice the speed of its predecessor, Claude 3 Opus. Additionally, it boasts the ability to independently write, edit, and execute code. Enhancements have also been made to the Vision features within the AI model to make it more versatile and efficient.

However, the free users might encounter a rate limit once they have sent or received a certain number of messages. To exceed this limit, a subscription to Claude Pro is required. This subscription not only raises the rate limit fivefold but also provides access to advanced AI models like Claude 3 Opus and Claude 3 Haiku. Moreover, Pro users benefit from prioritized access during busy times and early access to upcoming features.
