Cate Blanchett Embraces Borderlands Madness: How a Chainsaw and Cosplay Turned Her into a Fan

Anyone familiar with Cate Blanchett's previous work might find her appearance in the Borderlands movie strange. She's no stranger to comedies or films set in weird and wonderful places, but at least from the trailers, the quality of Borderlands might seem to some like a bit of a step down for Blanchett.

In an interview with Empire, she revealed why she took on the role. She mentioned that there may have been a little Covid madness, explaining she likes to take on roles that are crazy asks and things she could never conceive of.

She spent much time in the garden, using the chainsaw too freely. Her husband suggested that this film could save her life.

From there, Blanchett got quite absorbed in the world of Borderlands. She wanted to know the game's limits and what fans loved about the character. She got really absorbed in that whole world: the cosplayers and the YouTube make-up tutorials.

So, the casting for Borderlands has made Blanchett a certified franchise fan. We'll have to see if that can turn the film into gold next month, on August 9th.
