Bill Skarsgård is unexpectedly armed with a blade in a fresh glimpse at the contentious reboot of The Crow by Lionsgate. This iteration of The Crow features Bill Skarsgård stepping into the role of the iconic hero. Despite retaining the signature makeup, the previews and images released so far diverge significantly from both the original 1994 film featuring Brandon Lee and the 1989 graphic novel by James O'Barr. Nevertheless, as an avid supporter of both the film and the comic, my anticipation remains undiminished. Despite criticisms regarding its atmosphere, visual style, and representation of Eric Draven—a role left unexplored since Lee's passing—many enthusiasts remain optimistic.
In a newly revealed still, we see Skarsgård's Eric Draven brandishing what appears to be a traditional Japanese blade. In a pivotal moment where Eric descends upon Top Dollar's gathering, filled with adversaries, he seizes a katana from the wall. His actions include overpowering foes and impaling the meeting table to intimidate Skank, a target on his vengeance list. This recent visual, along with the trailer, seems to channel more of a John Wick essence, yet there's hope that it serves as homage.
The film's ensemble cast features FKA Twigs as Shelly Webster, with Danny Huston, Isabella Wei, Laura Bim, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger contributing their talents. Rupert Sanders takes on directing duties, with a script co-written by Zach Baylin (known for Creed 3 and Gran Turismo) and Will Schneider (notable for Return to Silent Hill), with Shirley also contributing to the screenplay.
The release of The Crow is set for August 23, 2024, having been delayed from its initial June 7 debut. For further anticipation, explore our compilation of the most awaited movies slated for 2024 and beyond, or delve directly into the excitement with our detailed list of movie premiere dates.
